'King’s Gold' False Cypress
Chamaecyparis pisifera
King's Gold Falsecypress is a compact, mounding, dwarf, thread-leaf variety with golden-yellow foliage.
As with Gold Thread Cypress, King's Gold is actually a Chamaecyparis ( false cypress ) variety, but is more widely known by the cypress name - so we choose to list it on both our Cypress, as well as our Chamaecyparis pages.
King's Gold is a specially developed strain, or form, of the standard Gold Mop Cypress which has shown itself to be much more compact & spreading in growth habit than Gold Mop, or Gold Thread Cypress. It also looks to hold its brilliant golden yellow color very well in the heat & humidity of the south & southeastern U.S. Has very nicely colored thread-like foliage, and a compact, spreading, mounding type growth habit. Makes an excellent foreground or accent planting, and provides a beautiful color contrast when planted against darker green foundation plantings.
To sum it all up, King's Gold is a smaller, tighter version of the original standard Gold Mop / Gold Thread Cypress.
Matures at 3 to 5 feet tall with an equal spread. An excellent choice for mass plantings.
