Althea is a deciduous, ornamental shrub, more commonly referred to as the Rose of Sharon. It is often used for group or border planting. This althea produces beautiful double purple blooms in the summer. The shrub exhibits a slow-to-moderate growth rate and reaches a height of about 15 feet and a spread of about 12 feet. When planting, look for a full sun area with moist, well-drained soil.
