Heritage® River Birch
Betula Nigra
Excellent beautiful tree for a narrow front yard tree (for limited spaces).
It has outstanding bark flaking characteristics. The curly, paper-thin, and pinkish tan bark of the young trunk is attractive all year. It also has excellent fall color. Matures at 40 to 70 feet tall and 40 to 60 feet wide.
Because of its improved tolerance to heat, it will grow from zone 4 through zone 9 (we are in zone 6), so it can be grown in almost all the states of America. It has attractive peeling bark, lighter in color than the wild form, and it makes a lovely picture in the garden, in many shades of pink, red and tan, which are especially welcome during the winter months. It is especially useful for wet, clay soils and will even grow in flooded areas, as well as growing in regular garden conditions.
