Notocactus elegans

Notocactus is a genus of approximately 25 cacti species native to South America, specifically Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Southern Brazil at low elevations. These plants are known for their unique spine formations and beautiful flowers. The name of the genus comes from the Greek term for "cactus from the south". Notocactus has since been merged with Parodia, which had precedence and resulted in all Notocactus species being reclassified under Parodia. These plants are typically spherical in shape, but can elongate as they mature, reaching up to 3 feet (90 cm). They are usually solitary and rarely produce offsets. The flowers of Notocactus are yellow and shaped like funnels or bells, appearing in groups of 3 or 4 multiple times throughout the year. Each flower has a lifespan of approximately one week.
