Northern Hackberry Tree

Celtis occidentalis 
Bark is thick, deeply furrowed, and develops warty cork projections.

Symmetrical and open-branched, with larger branches 26 to 33 feet above ground. The crown is ascending with spreading branches, which droop at the tips. Tolerates a range of climatic and soil conditions.

Used as a shade tree, It establishes easily and grows well in urban landscapes because of it's wide soil adaptability and its tolerance of heat, drought, wind, and ice. The fruit is a popular food for birds and small wildlife.
